Paste a job link anywhere and get the job back

Four places let you hand us a job link, and until now they behaved differently. The browser extension would read the page and add the vacancy. The contribute form and the Telegram bot would not: they recorded the company for us to crawl later and thanked you. So the same link got you a job in one place and a promise in another — and if you were after that specific role, the promise was the wrong answer.

Now all four run the same thing. Paste a link on the site, send it to the bot, use the extension or run freehire contribute <url>, and you get one of four answers:

• We already have it. Here is the posting.
• We already follow this company — the role just hadn’t landed yet. Added now, and the rest of its roles arrive on the next crawl.
• Added, and the company is new to us. We’ll start crawling its board, and you earn an AI credit for finding it.
• We couldn’t read that page. A maintainer will look at it by hand.

We can also read a great deal more than before. Reading a single vacancy page used to work on eight job platforms; it now works on all 45 we crawl — Recruitee, Personio, BambooHR, Workday, Teamtailor, SmartRecruiters and the rest. If we crawl the platform, we can read one posting on it, so a link that would have gone into a queue last week usually comes back as the job itself.

One thing that has not changed: the credit is for the company, not the vacancy. The first person to point us at a board we don’t cover earns it, because that is what adds every one of its jobs to the catalogue. A second link to a company already on the list is still useful to us, it just doesn’t pay twice.
