Hybrid jobs stopped calling themselves remote

Filter by Remote and you expect to never see an office address. A reader pointed at a Vilnius design role we labelled remote while the company’s own careers page said hybrid — and it turned out not to be one bad posting but a whole platform’s worth.

The job boards behind those postings send us a flag that reads like “remote”, except it is really “not strictly office-based” — a hybrid role carries it exactly like a fully remote one does. We had been trusting that flag instead of the field sitting right beside it, the one the company actually fills in when it writes Remote, Hybrid or On-site. So every hybrid job on that platform arrived here wearing the wrong label.

Now we read the field the employer filled in. For that platform alone, 33,000 jobs had been marked remote and 1,700 hybrid; the honest split is closer to 18,000 remote, 15,700 hybrid and 18,000 on-site. The remote filter got smaller and truer, and the hybrid filter finally holds the jobs that belong in it.

Three other platforms turned out to be quieter about the same thing — they report remote and hybrid separately, or hide the format in a field we never opened, so their jobs simply had no work format at all. They do now: more than 60,000 further jobs can tell you whether you would be commuting.
