Your CV already said where you are

Where you live decides things a job description states plainly: whether the company would have to sponsor a visa, whether an on-site role is even reachable, which hours you overlap with the team. Your CV usually says it in the first line.

Until now the profile only asked for it if you accepted on-site or hybrid work. Pick Remote alone and the question disappeared — and anything you had typed there was dropped when you saved. The assumption was that a remote worker has no particular location, which is exactly backwards: remote is where the country matters most.

“Where you’re based” is now asked of everyone, whatever work formats you accept, and it comes pre-filled from your CV so you confirm it rather than type it. It is separate from the two questions next to it — where you’d work remotely, and where you’d relocate to — because where you are is a fact, and those are preferences.

Two things follow from it:

• The fit analysis on a job page can now flag a role that is closed to you for where you live — a position pinned to a country that doesn’t sponsor visas, or an on-site job in another country. It already knew how to check this; it just never had your country to check against.
• Apply my profile in the job filters no longer narrows your search to your home country when you only want remote work. It still does for on-site and hybrid, where the job does have to be near you.

Your country is used to match you against jobs, and nothing else. It is not shown to companies, and the rest of the profile is unchanged — if you’d rather leave it blank, leave it blank.
